Infrascapes: Havana Cuba

Earlier this month, I traveled with my husband from our home here in Mexico to his fatherland – Cuba.  It was the first time he had been to the country where his father was born and raised. The plan was to have this trip be a way of discovering the spirit of Cuba by spending a week in Havana. We spent time with a local guide/photographer and visited various classic locations in Havana and strolled along the streets where his father likely spent time as well.  My husband really enjoyed discovering “his people” and we’ve already talked about returning to Cuba again.

I brought my color infrared camera with me and took a series of images while we were in Havana.

Valencia: City of Arts and Sciences

Any visitor to Valencia, Spain, who is interested in cool architecture must visit the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias. The Cuidad covers 2 kilometers and contains complexes dedicated to arts, culture, science and leisure. The architects were  Santiago Calatrava and Félix Candela and the project was completed in the late 1990’s.

After visiting it a few years ago when I came to Valencia the first time, I knew I would do a return visit so I could photograph it again. Here are some color infrared images as well as some monochrome images I shot in an afternoon at the Cuidad.

Barcelona – Oh My Gaudi!

During our Spain trip we made a quick overnight trip to Barcelona via high-speed train from Valencia. In 3 hours, we were in the playground of famous architect Antonio Gaudi. I planned our itinerary around his famous buildings. It was nothing short of amazing. Being in Basilica de La Sagrada Familia was magical. I have never been to such an spectacular place. I was in awe the entire time I was there. It’s still being constructed and is expected to be complete in 2026. I will plan on going back again when it’s done.

Here’s a series of infrared photographs of the works of Gaudi in Barcelona including La Pedrera, Parc Guell and Basilica de La Sagrada Familia (sans cranes). Color images and video will follow in upcoming posts.

Prairie Solitude – Images of Disappearing Rural Life

One of my favorite series of images that I’ve worked on for over 5 years are those associated with rural life throughout the world. I created a slide show of digital infrared photographs from the series and it was chosen as a finalist at the Palm Springs Photography Festival a couple of years ago and was also selected to play at the very first Slideluck Potshow held in Austin, TX.  Heres a snippet of images from that series.  Below that you’ll find a link to the slide show.

Images from my Prairie Solitude series.

Here’s the slide show I created:

Happy Chinese New Year – Year of the Rabbit

n honor of my Chinese friends here and my co-workers in Penang, I’m posting photographs from my conceptual series called “The Rabbit Chronicles“. These images were shot at the Salton Sea in California and in Blanco, Texas. These are fun, silly and happen to be in the collections of a handful of “rabid” fans of the series.

Happy Chinese New Year! And welcome to the Year of the Rabbit!
